USANA Biz Centre: Goal-Setting for Your Home Business

The most difficult aspect of running your own home business is finding the motivation to push forward. You become distracted with everyday tasks and the demands of the family, to the detriment of your business.

Setting goals for yourself can help you to stay motivated. But it’s not enough to simply write out some goals and stick them on your fridge or computer. Setting goals for your home business involves planning, thought and follow-through:

Set Realistic Goals

When setting goals for your home-based business, you can’t set your goal as “paying off your mortgage in six months” right off the bat. Start with small goals that are just a little bit out of your comfort zone. Perhaps your goal for the month will be “set up a website” or “contact ten people about my business“.

Achieving a goal gives you a feeling of triumph, and you’ll soon develop the momentum to push on to bigger and bigger goals. (And who knows, paying off your mortgage could be next …)

Give Yourself a Timeframe

Don’t leave your goals open-ended. Set yourself a realistic timeline for each goal, such as “within three months”, “in two weeks time” or “before the end of the year”.

Another good idea is to ensure you can measure the success of a particular goal. If your goal is “setup website”, then the goal is obviously complete when the website is set up. “Sell 1000 units before December” is another trackable goal with a timeline. However, “be a successful network marketer” isn’t a good goal, because you haven’t defined how you plan on measuring your level of success.

Break it down

If you simply write your goals above your computer and stare at them each day, you’ll never achieve any of them. Goals that seem too big and too far in the future get lost in the daily grind. By breaking your goal down into small tasks you complete one at a time, you can take little steps every day towards achieving your business goals.

By setting realistic, trackable goals and breaking them down into action steps, each day will bring you closer to home business freedom.

If you want to break free of the daily grind and experience the joy and freedom of running your own business, USANA has a business opportunity for you.
