New Zealand USANA 2 STAR Diamond Directors Chris Folland and Fiona Jamieson-Folland took up an amazing challenge in 2010 to sponsor 16 Associates in 16 weeks! And if you are wondering how they achieved their goal, we would probably say increasing your commitment level will be a good start. But how?
By giving yourself a serious consequence!
We often hear people say “I am going to set up a goal for myself to achieve this, this and this…” If the goal is merely a wish rather than an absolute must, then my gut feeling is – it is hard to accomplish, especially when the goal requires effort.
HOWEVER, when you hear people say “I am going to achieve this, or I will be punished by…”, then most likely, they will get what they want. Because having a consequence just shows how serious they are to achieve their goals, especially when the punishment is more painful than staying on course.
Here is a GREAT example:
Carolyn Edwards, one of our New Zealand USANA Ruby Directors, has set up a goal for herself for 10 active and motivated people to join her USANA team by 28 March 2011. The reward is a DAY at the Spa with her daughters, but the punishment is to go Sky Diving before 1 April. Carolyn has a major fear of heights. Sky Diving is not a fun, but just a disaster. “The thought of jumping out of an aeroplane scares me so much it literally makes me feel ill. The fear of the jump hurts far more than anything I will need to do to find and sponsor those people!” She says.
To secure the 10 active people, she plans to prospect a minimum of 5 people per day. We wish her good luck!

There are several ways to put yourself on the line in order to ensure your success:
Carolyn did it by making the consequence disastrous; In our upcoming blog, Nikki Stockton, Customer Service Manager of USANA Australia and New Zealand, made her consequence embarrassing; Also, you may try to make yours public. This will propel you into constant action because the embarrassment of not achieving your goal would be too much for you to handle! Let us know if you have a goal in mind and want to be held accountable, we’ll put it out there for everyone to read.
Right after we uploaded all the photos of the Health & Freedom Auckland events to our USANA Facebook page, comments from the participants started to flow in. Let’s listen to their voices:
Beck Metcalfe:“Fantastic event - learnt a lot and Eric Rush was amazing to listen to.”
Romela Quinn: “Thank you all very much for a great weekend! It was amazing and we appreciate all the hard work that was put into making these two events so successful. So excited about the future! “
Georgina Moke: “Thank you USANA it was an awesome weekend.....”
Allan-Raewyn Mitchell:“It was indeed a wonderful session. Thanks to all the great speakers (and those Associates who shared bravely)!”
And these comments are just a few out of 500 attendees at the USANA events in Auckland!
The Health Event was a superb Health educational evening with Drs. Monica Lewis & Gerald Lewis inspiring everyone to take charge of their lives. Dr. Libby Weaver shared insights with everyone from her new book Accidently Overweight. The Health Panel including Tracey Clissold, a USANA Sports Ambassador, gave some great advice on health and nutrition. Dr. Tim Wood’s presentation was inspirational and he shared why USANA is the best. The evening was interspersed with some very powerful testimonials.
The Business Event was split into two, with Associates holding their own training event in the morning. This session was just sensational with Associates sharing their stories – sometimes very emotional - of how they have come to be where they are and how they did it.
The afternoon Business Event was a great hit with Dr. Tim Wood sharing the potential of the wellness industry and how USANA fits into this. Guest speaker Eric Rush had the audience in fits of laughter as he shared his life story in his own unique way - from humble beginnings he eventually became a member of the prestigious All Blacks and challenged the audience to take action and keep on trying no matter what.
Preferred Customer Elsie Wong who turns 80 this year has other ideas. She has been taking USANA since 1999. She originally joined as an associate but is now a loyal Preferred Customer.
Elsie is always on the go. She has now decided that she has to give up her dance entertainment that she did a couple of times a week at the retirement home she visits because she has not got enough time in her day!! She has recently purchased a 21 speed bicycle in lavender & silver as she wants to ride the Otago Rail Trail which goes from Dunedin to Clyde….only a mere 150km!! Apart from that she sings with an Archepelago group, is learning the ukulele. A few years back she decided that she wanted to learn tap dancing and also theatre craft. She took all her exams and has the medals to prove it.
On top of all that, 3 times a week she does Tai Chi & walking and also works part time as an in-store cooking demonstrator.
Finally watch out Auckland, a Skyjump is also on her list to tick off!!
Dr Wentz’s statement of Love Life, and live it to the fullest has certainly been embraced by Elsie.
We received amazing feedback from the Health & Freedom Sydney events and now the phone calls and congratulations for the Melbourne events are rolling in!
Here is one:
“Both the Health Event and the Business Event at Melbourne’s Health & Freedom Week were a success. My guests and I were very pleased! There was a complete and balanced speaker spectrum across the industry. Dr. Giselle Cooke’s and Dr. Tim Wood’s speeches at the Health event were informative and insightful. Aliz Loy sent out a clear and punchy message on how to develop your USANA business by answering three questions – Are you ready to make a change to your life and career? How do you know if you are making the right decision? How do you know if the time is right? These questions were straight to the point and inspired me!” David Tee, Ruby Director, Melbourne
Over 1,000 people’s expectations were exceeded and everyone went home with heightened awareness on how to achieve a healthy lifestyle.
Associates walked away with a renewed passion on building their USANA businesses.
We were privileged to hear from some incredible speakers….
Steve Hooker – Steve pole vaulted onto stage and shared how he attributes a large amount of his success to USANA. Isn’t this EXCITING?
Dr Wesley Ang – Dr Ang shared some powerful information and the audience always loves a local hero.
Anh Do – Anh stole the show once again..what more can we say!
Dr Tim Wood and Dr Giselle Cooke – Tim represented USANA corporate on a global scale with his usual aplomb; while Giselle discussed the shift toward healthful living in our community.
Thank you again to the testimonial speakers and all our USANA family of volunteers who helped us with registration, translation and the general organisation.
Wow! What a kick start to 2011! We are still being embraced by the massive positive feedback from the Health & Freedom Week Sydney Health event, and the Sydney Business event - It is being touted as one of our best events yet!
With more than 1400 people attending from all across Australia for both events, the Hills Centre was brilliantly lighted up with passion, inspiration and enthusiasm!
At the Health event Dr. Giselle Cooke and Brenda Rogers gave wonderful and inspiring presentations- the Health Panel that also included Sydney Kings Captain Ben Knight and Personal Trainer Chris Tuck was awesome and the testimonial groups who shared their touching stories with us made the event perfect.

We have come home with high energy and excitement and feel there was so much we learnt that was practical to our own individual businesses and where we are at. And of course Ahn Do stole the show!!! I could not sleep last night as so much was going on in my head with ideas! And Ideas! And Ideas!” Karen & Mark St Amand-Cairns

A big THANK YOU to all the speakers, attendees, USANA volunteers! … And to our organisers as well, as there was so much hard work behind the scenes.
When we heard that Dr Libby Weaver was coming to give her presentation at the upcoming USANA Health & Freedom Auckland events, we were so excited! We were watching “Beating the Bulge” the other day – a program produced by the “Close Up” team of TVNZ, one of the leading TV networks in New Zealand, and it actually made us think she would be a great speaker for our event! And NOW, she is COMING! And she is speaking at BOTH the New Zealand Business and Health events!
An introduction of Dr Libby Weaver
Just in case some people do not know who she is – Dr Libby Weaver (nee Ellis) (Ph.D) is one of Australasia’s leading nutrition specialists and weight-loss experts. Her enthusiasm for empowering people to make optimum health choices has led her to consult privately with individuals in the corporate health arena, as well as with universities and the media. She is the author of the recently released book, Accidently Overweight, and a sought after New Zealand health personality. Dr Libby will talk about how to maintain a healthy lifestyle and manage your weight by understanding your hormones at the USANA Health Event on 18th, and will share her business story and explain how you too can be successful in the health industry at the USANA Business Event on 19th.
Now the countdown of the events begins, if you don’t want to miss Dr Libby’s wealth of knowledge, then bring YOUSELF and YOUR GUESTS as well as your QUESTIONS to the event!
CanTeen is an organisation supporting young people living with cancer. USANA Associates John & Suzanne Barley were delighted to have the opportunity of acting as one of the sponsors for a CanTeen event held in conjunction with the Manukau 4WD Club. John and Suzanne describe their experiences here..
We had a great day out at Takanini. The 4WD Association took out 18 CanTeen patients for some off-road driving along some really fun tracks. USANA sponsored refreshments and giveaways to the participants in the way of Nutrition Bars, Rev3 and Nutrimeal, along with water bottles and caps. We thank USANA for their contribution towards the fun-filled day.
Pictured above John putting the USANA goodies into the gift packs for the CanTeen participants
The CanTeen attendees had an opportunity to drive the vehicles and travelled from Papakura, to Waiuku to the beautiful Kariotahi Beach where they stopped for lunch before making the return trip. One vehicle became stuck and everyone had fun trying to extract it. Congratulations to Amelia who was the winner of the USANA cap!
CanTeen has a clear focus on the needs of young people living with cancer. The foundation was built upon the fundamental belief that young people - through meeting, talking and sharing their experiences - would be better able to cope with the uncertainties of living with cancer.
Kim Clijsters, winner of the Australian Open, is one of six brand Ambassadors (the other five are Samantha Stosur, Zheng Jie, Liezel Huber, Aleksandra Wozniak and Melanie Oudin) who came onboard Team USANA as part of an extended partnership with WTA in 2011 through to 2013. USANA has been keenly following the progress of all its players since the tour started and is proud to be associated with such talented athletes.
Not only were the players spotted at the USANA Product Distribution Office at the Tennis Centre, our very own Sam has been spotted on the TV and other media in Jetstar, McCain and ANZ commercials.

USANA will have an official presence and on court signage at the following tournaments, keep an eye out and see if you can spot it!
We wish all the USANA WTA Ambassadors all the best for their upcoming tours. Stay tuned for more news, messages, videos and quotes from our Ambassadors as they compete throughout 2011.
We love hearing success stories from our Associates regarding their USANA business after all USANA is in the business of people and our Associates are the lifeline of our business.
Chris Folland and Fiona Jamieson-Folland in New Zealand, 2 STAR Diamond Directors, took up a challenge in 2010 to sponsor 16 Associates in 16 weeks! Here is Chris’ story in his own words.
One way to think of personal sponsorship is that it’s the life blood for growing your business. So we accepted Gill Stapleton’s sponsorship challenge, back in September 2010, and set a goal – to sponsor 16 Associates in 16 weeks! Then, interestingly, the challenges appeared. We seemed to have less people to talk to about USANA, and we moved offices – twice! We had phone & internet glitches, many of our prospects said no; over and over again. Surely we had enough logical, ‘legitimate’ reasons to give up and everyone would think it was OK. However, we realized it wouldn’t be okay with us. We chose to complete our goal because we said we would. We realised it made more sense to show our team, rather than tell them, that they can reach their targets too. Success was definitely testing us and we stepped up and decided to pass! So, re-focusing on how USANA has and is helping us, and how it has the potential to help others – our enthusiasm increased and we doubled our prospecting efforts. WOOHOO! What a feeling - we hit our target! And this just shows us that you can too. When you decide to stay focused on your business and share the gift of time, money and health with someone new every day, success is guaranteed to come your way!
We hope this story inspires you to take up your own USANA business challenge and succeed in meeting and exceeding your own expectations. Share Dr Myron Wentz’s health and wealth vision with someone new every day and watch your dreams turn into reality.
Did you know over 165 WTA athletes and over 600 athletes worldwide take USANA products? Impressed? Do you want to learn from the best in sport about how they take care of their health? Then come along to the upcoming Sydney Health Event of the Health & Freedom Week with your guests and listen to sports gurus, Ben and Chris. We are sure you and your guests won’t be disappointed.
Ben Knight, Sydney Kings Captain & Australian Basketball Star
Ben’s long-term success on the basketball court has seen him become one of Australia’s most recognised and popular sporting figures. His great leadership qualities enhance his role as the captain of the Sydney Kings, Australia’s best supported and most recognisable team, as well as the owner of his business. To us, he is a typical example of the young, energetic and sporty group, who has a hard working and infectious character, and is excited about opportunities that abound in the future, both on and off the court.
Chris Tuck, Personal Trainer & Sports Enthusiast
Over the past three years, Chris has helped hundreds of people transform their bodies and their lives through Personal Training, Boot Camps, Nutrition Consulting and USANA supplements. Being teamed up with USANA sponsored athlete Steve Hooker on the “Fuelling the Fitness Fanatic” Optimal Wellness webinar, he obviously has a lot to say about the health and fitness.
We can’t wait to hear their inspiring presentations!
Chris Tuck
For people in Melbourne and Auckland, don’t worry, we haven’t forgotten about you: There will be Aussie pole vault sensation, Steve Hooker (for the Melbourne Health Event) and one of USANA’s favourites, New Zealand’s past marathon star, Tracey Clissold (for the Auckland Health Event). Plus we have a surprise in store for you for our final guest speaker!!
