Pimples, insect bites, sunburn, dry skin … the summer sun can create havoc on your skin. We want you to look and feel your best this summer, so here are some tips for looking after your skin:
Limit Sun Exposure: sunburn causes all kinds of skin problems, from peeling redness, to premature aging and skin cancer. Limit your exposure to the sun whenever possible, and always cover up with sunscreen, a hat, and sunglasses. Slap on some Daytime Protective Emulsion when your sun exposure is limited, but when you are out on the beach or for extended periods of time, go slip-slap-slop with a good 30+ SPF sunscreen that provides high protection from UVA and UVB exposure.
Take lots of vitamins: a healthy body promotes healthy skin. Taking a regular, daily dose of essential vitamins from the USANA Essentials range will keep your skin fresh and glowing. Antioxidants and vitamins A, C and E are particularly useful in fighting off the effects of sun damage.
Moisturise: the summer heat causes dry, flaking skin, which isn’t any fun. Choose a light, non-greasy moisturiser like USANA’s Sensé Daytime Protective Emulsion you can apply every day. Don’t forget to keep the hydration on your entire body even through the night with Night Renewal and Firming Body Nourisher.
Keep insects at bay: those pesty insects love to bite scented skin, so limit your use of scented hairsprays, perfumes, deodorants and creams during the summer months. If you’re having a barbeque in the backyard, if you use insect repellent, wash it off when you go inside. You don’t want to leave all those harmful chemicals on your skin.
Treat itchy insect bites with a dab of vinegar on some cotton wool. Add a cup of oatmeal (yes, really) to a cool bath to soothe surface-skin itches.
Enjoy Summer Fruits: Summer abounds with fresh citrus fruits and berries, packed with vitamins and antioxidants to fight free radicals and keep your skin glowing. Use them to balance those indulgent festive meals and to add a burst of antioxidant goodness to your flavoursome spread.
Combat acne: we sweat more in summer, and the sweat locks dirt in our pores and produces summer breakouts. Use a soap-free cleanser with jojoba, such as USANA’s Sensé Energizing Shower Gel, to wash away dead skin cells and wipe your face and body with a clean towel after showering.
Don’t forget, a healthy body promotes healthy, glowing skin. Summer is the perfect time to get outside and enjoy sports and other active pursuits. With a healthy dose of daily vitamins, a summer diet rich in fresh fruits and veggies, and a few simple skin-care tips, you’re set for the best summer yet!
