Sam who was ranked ninth seed (Singles) fired her way through the opening set before fending off her opponent’s comeback to claim a 6-2 6-3 victory and made history as Australia's first female grand slam singles champion in 31 years! Stosur is just the second Australian woman, after Margaret Court, to win a major Grand slam title.Her grit, determination and cool head saw her win again and again throughout the tournament’s qualifying rounds before reaching the finals to face-off against tournament favorite Serena Williams.
Despite having some bad runs in other tournaments leading up to the US Open, Sam has proven that you cannot keep a champion down for long and determination and a game plan will eventually deliver success.
