USANA Makes Buzz on the Norfolk Island

It is amazing to hear that Gabrielle Beaumont, one of our USANA Independent Associates from Norfolk Island , doubled the sales amount in just one month! And it’s even more amazing to hear that she achieved this out of a small island sitting in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, with only 1,800 population in total! Would you say that USANA is such a wonderful business no matter where you run it?

We couldn’t wait to get in touch with Gabrielle and share her story with you. Here are her tips on the successful month:
  • Take full advantage of USANA’s business tools, such as the Health Essentials mini magazine and the Health Product Handbooks – distribute as many as possible
  • Try to use third-party endorsement – Gabrielle’s trick is to team up with the local gym and spread the USANA products through there.
  • Always present your business and products in a smart and sharp manner to your audience
“It is such a small community. Strong sales approaches do not work here. Everything seems to happen because of word-of-mouth. It takes a little while to build up everything from scratch, but once people started to talk and ask questions about the product, then it’s time for you to take one step forward.” Gabrielle Says.

The isolation of Norfolk Island is a challenge for Gabrielle’s USANA business, but she manages to look at the positive side of things:”Because of the isolation, the internet here is paramount – especially when trying to grow the business through Associate enrollments.” Gabrielle uses Health &Freedom Solution and Follow up Assistant. She thinks they are brilliant.

If you have an interesting story about you and your USANA business, please contact us at magazineANZ@usana.com.

When One Achiever Meets Other Achievers…

For those who have read our previous blog about Gill Stapleton’s great result in the New York Marathon, you probably already know that Gill is very much an achiever. She sets high targets for herself and works hard to achieve them, both in her business and personal life.

On her way back from New York, Gill travelled to San Jose, California and met USANA Leaders Aaron Dinh, Kathy Ngo and Miss Un and she delivered an inspiring training to all the female Associates in Aaron’s team. “As the General Manager of USANA Australia and New Zealand, it is great to take this opportunity to introduce myself to our overseas Leaders and Associates and listen to their enthusiasm for the USANA business.” Gill says.

One thing is for certain, Gill was pleased to meet the many high achieving leaders in attendance and see how they inspire each other with so many great ideas to build their USANA business.

USANA Associates achieving more

For high-achievers in USANA, in addition to their amazing work ethic they consistently exhibit and teach some basic traits.

Here are just a few....

  • It is important to educate yourself in both products and the business opportunity. eApprentice is a must as is the Health and Freedom Solutions DVD
  • Attend every training that you can
  • Also take a guest to your local Health and Freedom events
  • Make use of all the great tools on USANAtoday.
  • Ask for help and watch what successful Associates do and duplicate their efforts. You will be pleasantly surprised by the results
  • “Rome wasn’t built in a day”. All you need to do is to stay consistent and put something into action every day that will yield a positive business results

Finally, whatever it is you want to achieve, know that it is the power of your dedication that will bring your dreams to life. Your desire and your commitment can make a huge difference to your level of success.

USANA Fuels New Zealand Corporate Games

Corporate Games is the world’s largest corporate multi-sports festival with athletes or, “Weekend Warriors”, representing thousands of organisations worldwide. This year’s New Zealand Corporate Games was held on 13-14 November, 2010 in Alexandria Park Raceway, Auckland and included touch rugby, golf, netball, soccer and indoor cricket.

Two of our USANA Associates, Elsa Andres and Doug Palmer participated from the sidelines on Registration day (12 November, 2010) promoting USANA Health Sciences to the 300-400 athletes in attendance. Interest in the USANA products was high, especially the Rev3 and nutrition bars , which Doug and Elsa handed out as samples along with Health Product Handbooks and Health Essentials mini magazines.

Apart from promoting the USANA products, the focus was also to educate the participants about healthy options they could use to improve their overall health and their performance during physical activities. USANA’s participation was well received by the organizers and athletes alike.

Thank you to Doug and Elsa for spreading Dr. Wentz’s vision and reaching out to athletes in need.

USANA Supports Bike Ride to Wellington Program

USANA Australia New Zealand congratulates the entire team of 12 cyclists who recently rode 300km in just three days from Hastings to Wellington, New Zealand from November 6th – 8th, 2010. Many of the travellers weighed in at more than 100kg. The weight loss program is based around Maori ideas of health and wellbeing – psychological, spiritual, physical and family. Well done!

USANA is proud to support this program and amazing group of cyclists with low GI foods, including USANA Nutrimeal, Nutrition Bars, and energy drink, Rev3 Energy Surge.

USANA Associates and Physio experts, Katy Parsons and Louise Coughlan, kept the team healthy on their marathon bike ride. Katy says: “It was essential that they refuelled and were eating nutritious food whilst on the ride. We have some new fans of the Rev3 drink, it transformed one man’s ride on the first day, peddling through a strong southerly wind and the rain to reach our first destination. Also for myself, I never felt so good despite never riding that kind of distance over 3 days before.”

The program has been life changing for those involved. Let’s wish them good luck on their journey of turning around a lifetime of habits towards good health and fitness.

Katy’s tips for a marathon bike ride:
  • Ensure the bike is the right size for you and is adjusted to fit specifically to you by a professional. We see so many people who encounter overuse injuries due to poor bike set up.
  • Ensure you train before hand to allow you body to adapt and cope with the demands of being on the bike for so long!
  • Train specific to the event you are training for, i.e. if it’s a hilly course, you need ride hills in training!
  • Have a pre, during and post nutrition and hydration routine. For training and during the event. We go on 1 bottle of fluids per hour, sometimes more in warm weather!
  • Practise your nutrition plan before the event.
Please check our Facebook to watch the Wellington Hikoi montage of their journey to Wellington.

Your Passport to Great Holiday Health

It’s time to celebrate the most joyful time of the year – Christmas holiday season! When those special meals, parties and travels start to fill up your schedule, most people begin to feel stressed about gift ideas, blown-out budgets, and most importantly, their health issues.

However, healthy living does not have to be a battle during the holidays. Here are some tips to help you stay on top of your health, no matter what activities you do:

Holiday eating
It’s great to enjoy some of the special treats that only appear at this time of year, but ensure that you have healthy meals and snacks. And take caution to not over-indulge. If you are going to a buffet meal, have substantial proportions of veggies and fruits rather than the fatty foods. Always remember: getting enough food does not necessarily mean you are getting enough nutrition. Therefore, nutritional supplements are essential for optimal health.

Relaxation
Pamper yourself with a long, soothing bath and spa with premium skincare and body care products. A nice walk in the country or on the beach could give you loads of fresh air. Go to your favourite yoga class or sit quietly listening to your best-loved music. The better you take care of yourself, the healthier you'll be.

Physical exercise

Most people tend to gain weight during holidays. It is great to keep your exercise routine even when on holidays, by combining your holiday activities with exercise - go for a walk or ride with friends after a big BBQ meal, or do an extra couple laps around the mall before you start your shopping.

Traveling
For the Southern Hemisphere, Christmas is during summer, so when you go out and expose yourself under the harsh daytime sun, do not forget to take sunscreen and also your favourite skin care packs.

Along with the passport you take with you, carry your nutritionals as well, especially when you are traveling to new and unfamiliar destinations where you may need to find your way around to get the best quality nutritious fresh food.

As a good complement to the tips above, our colleagues from the home office have some good advice to help you stay away from treats during holidays as well – Check out ‘What’s Up, USANA?’ for more information. At last, it’s the time of the year to do planning for your health for next year. You may simply follow these three steps:
  • Set up a goal for the next year – what you are trying to achieve. For instance, losing 10kg in a year’s time. Remember goals must be SMART (Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic and Time-based)
  • Work out the approaches to achieve this goal – e.g. what you are going to do (link to the RESET program) to lose the 10kg?
  • Compare your achievement with your goal at the end of the year – To see if you have lost that much weight. If not, find out the causes.
Have a safe and healthy Christmas holiday and get yourself ready for a brand new year.

Steve Hooker – Achieving Greatness

USANA Sponsored athlete – Steve Hooker is going from strength to strength and says he is yet to reach his peak. Steve has had a massive year in terms of attending competitions and is currently on a well deserved break taking time out to reflect on the year he just had. “I found 2010 a very different year, with my major goals (World Indoors and Commonwealth Games) at either end of the inaugural Diamond League season (Steve is also Diamond League Ambassador). It was a year to which I had a lower-key approach, and that was probably reflected in some of my results’.

“As a whole, though, I think it will make me approach 2011 and 2012 with still more intensity and a desire to get good results” simultaneously keeping a close eye on his rivals to give him the motivation to succeed. This superstar has really ‘Gone for Gold’ in 2010 with Gold medal wins in 3 major events – World Indoor Championships, IAAF World Championships and Commonwealth Games. He has set his sights now on winning Gold at the World Championships in 2011 and Olympics in 2012.

The World Champion in Pole Vaulting has also recently
added two award nominations to his growing list of achievements. Steve was nominated for 2010 IAAF World Athlete of the Year and Sports Performer Award (Australia). USANA staff and Associates have been voting for Steve daily to win the Sports Performer Award. Voting closes on Wednesday 24 November so if you haven’t already cast your vote for our superstar – do it now!

What does Steve have to say about USANA products? “It was very important to keep my supplement intake up during the games period and the USANA supplements definitely helped me perform at my best.” Thank you for all the support that has been coming through from USANA!’

Best of luck Steve with all your upcoming events and award nominations – we can’t wait to see him in action in 2011!

Race Day Applause… Congratulations Gill!

We just heard that Gill completed the New York Marathon with an amazing result - 4 hours 38 mins (unofficial result)! While her goal for this run was under 5 hours, she made it 21 minutes faster! Wow, we are so impressed! Good on you Gill!

Let's have a look at the flashback scene: The event started early on a damp and cold morning in Fort Wadsworth, Staten Island. The day started with breakfast, entertainment and athletes’ warm-up.
Gill Stapleton, in a pink top, with confident smile, started her 42.195km marathon with seven friends from Sydney and tens of thousands of other runners. For Gill, the marathon is about setting a high target, and doing whatever it takes to achieve it. She has been training for over six months to reach her target and complete the NYC marathon with this amazing result.

The biggest challenge of running the marathon for Gill has been to fit the training schedule in with her busy work schedule as General Manager of USANA Australia and New Zealand. She obviously has a lot on her plate already! At USANA International Convention this year, she had to run 28km before the Saturday session which meant getting up at 4am before most people even hear the alarm go off! However, running with international colleagues and watching the sunrise over the Utah horizon became one of her best memories. “Thank goodness for USANA nutritional supplements – I couldn’t have survived without them,” Gill says.

Gill’s family has supported her from the beginning. We hear her husband has even taken over some of the household chores in order for Gill to fit her training in. What a great husband!

Send your congratulations to Gill by leaving a message below. Tell us what goals you have for this year and how you plan to achieve them.

USANA Supports Dragons Abreast Festival

On Sunday USANA staff and Associates competed an annual dragon boating race day run by the team at Dragons Abreast. Everybody had an amazing day!

The “USANA Dragon Team”, made up of staff and Associates (Raman Chen and Alan Todhunter) competed in three heats against 60 teams, representing a variety of groups.

USANA Associates turned out in force to support, waving USANA flags and giving their loudest applause. Thank you for all your support!

We tried our best but didn’t make the finals. But nobody cared. Isn’t it more about ‘having a go’ than winning? We all felt like winners on the day.

What’s important is that we had an amazing day of fun where we raised money for breast cancer and learned about all those incredible women who have fought breast cancer, or are still fighting now. We congratulate you! Now that’s a real sense of achievement!

One Associate (and Dragon Boat participant) who is trying his best is Alan Todhunter. He is working very hard towards his goal to be a leader in his USANA business. By contributing to this special event, we can already see his efforts and commitment to his USANA business – which is to spread the word about living healthy and living wealthy.

For more photos of the dragon boat racing day, please check our Facebook.

New York, New York...

There are more than 500 marathons worldwide these days and the New York City Marathon is one of the five largest and most prestigious marathons in the world. The event draws more than 100,000 applicants annually from around the globe with a limit of 38,000 participants.

This year’s New York City Marathon will take place on November 7, 2010 and our very own USANA Australi
a & New Zealand General Manager, Gill Stapleton has guaranteed a place.

Gill loves marathons but even more, she loves achieving goals, and she prepares well. New York City marathon has been at least six month training. “Getting into this event is like winning a lottery, and I have set up a goal for myself – to reduce my Paris time and aim to come in under five hours… Four hours 59 min would suit me fine!”

The long run is an important element in marathon training. Greater weekly training mileages can offer gr
eater results in terms of distance and endurance, but also carry a greater risk of training injury. Another essential part of marathon preparation is looking after your nutritional health. Gill not only heads USANA Australia & New Zealand, she loves the products too!

She takes USANA HealthPak, CoQuinone 100, Proflavanol C, BiOmega, Procosamine II and Vitamin D to keep her body in the best condition. In order to avoid digestive problems, Gill also takes USANA Nutrimeal and loves the new fibergy.

The countdown is on. USANA is very proud to support Gill who is running for a great cause – Breast Cancer Network Australia. With the Paris marathon under her belt and New York soon notched up, Gill is contemplating London marathon for 2012.

What goals are you setting for yourself for this year and next?

Let’s cheer Gill on! Leave your message of support as a comment below or as a message on Facebook.

Gill is going to wear her USANA pink top for the run.
