Lead by Example

Not everyone is a born leader but we all have the ability to motivate and inspire others if we believe in what we are doing. Motivating a team is about creating an environment in which others feel empowered to make their own decisions based on their skills and knowledge. If all members of the team feel that the have something to contribute and have the confidence to do so then no goal is too big and nothing is out of reach.

A good leader leads by example, by doing what they are asking of their team and doing it well. A good leader inspires others to follow their lead by showing that they believe in what they are doing and are willing to work alongside their team to achieve their goals.

Leaders come in all shapes and forms and there are many different styles of leadership. In business having a leader to refine focus, determine direction and drive motivation is imperative to success.

There are many ways to get from A to B in business but if you want to achieve the best results it is always best to have a team that is willing to work for you and that believes in what you are trying to achieve as much as you do.

Here are some tips for inspiring and motivation a business team:

  • Every individual within the team has their own skills, experience and abilities. Trust in those skills, empower your team to make decisions and let them take ownership of their area of business.
  • Create a supportive environment in which your team members feel comfortable coming to you with ideas or problems.

  • Recognise and reward achievement within the team and as a team.

  • Encourage open discussion of issues and keep an open door policy at all times.

  • Communicate goals and the steps to attaining them clearly.

  • Set some goals as a team so that team members feel that they have some control over their environment.

  • Learn about your teams members, how do they respond to different methods of motivation and communication. Find out what makes them tick and what inspires them.

Leading a team in business is very challenging but can be extremely rewarding. The sense of accomplishment you get when as a team you achieve your goals is very special. Foster a sense of team spirit by inspiring others to believe in themselves and the team and you are more than half way to success.

eComm Etiquette

New media is changing the way we do business, and changing the way we interact and market to our audiences. As a business owner you can reach significantly more people than you ever could in the past and you get the opportunity to interact in a entirely different way.

With the rise of social media giants such as Facebook and Twitter you have the opportunity to target more tightly and interact more personally. However with this opportunity comes a greater responsibility to pull your audiences rather than push them.

A sure-fire way to push your potential audiences away is too misuse social media. But if used correctly mediums such as Facebook and Twitter can benefit your business in ways that traditional marketing couldn't even come close.

Here are some tips for online marketing etiquette that will help you maximise new media;

  • Never send bulk spam or unsolicited emails, apart from being illegal it is also impersonal and ineffective.

  • If your using facebook you should interact on a personal level, set up a profile and make connections the old fashioned way, by appealing to common interests.

  • Respect the community you are interacting within and adhere to the rules of that community.

  • With any online communication such as emails, blogging, Facebook and Twitter try to make the conversation meaningful and relevant to the audience you are appealing to.

  • Be consistent with whatever form of online marketing you are engaging in. If your blogging do it regularly, keep your followers interested with consistent updates. If you use twitter the same applies.

  • Always deliver on your promises, if you are email marketing and you say you will be sending weekly newsletters stick to that, don't suddenly send out 5 emails in a week or disappear for months without word.

Overall online is a great way to connect with people looking for what you have to offer, so once they have found you all you have to do is make the connection and keep them coming back.

Building a Business on the Internet

Australians and New Zealanders spend more time online than on any other medium, on average 16.1 hours per week. Whether its shopping, socialising or researching - that is a significant portion of time spent engaged and connected.

In today's economic climate online presents unique opportunities for business to thrive. Not only does it allow you access to a wider audience of already engaged people but those people will come to you if you do it right.

Here are some basic tips for making the most of the online space for your business:

Personalise your marketing, even though your audience is bigger you are still appealing to an individual.

Measure your online marketing, analyse the results and use them to improve your marketing efforts.

Google Analytics is a great FREE tool for measuring advertising and marketing efforts.
Use a Pay Per Click campaign to get a feel for the market, this will help you understand the words people are using to find you and give you the opportunity to try different approaches.

Use already established contacts to grow your online reputation. Backlinks to your site are highly effective for improving rankings and driving traffic.

You have to give before you can get, give useful information, create compelling content and focus on giving a great use experience.

The beauty of online is that you can track everything that you do and see in real time the effects of your marketing campaigns. You can also change your approach with the click of a mouse so you have the ability to adapt to the changes in the market quickly and cost effectively.

Online is a medium that connects people with what they want when they want it. If you set yourself up well then people will come to you.
